Alphabetical Surname Index | Cemetery Description | Virtual Cemetery | Cemetery Main Page |
This online index only lists the individual, death date (if
known) and reference page. We are creating a master index of everyone who is
buried in this county and their burial location to aid researchers. We are
especially in need of people buried here who have no stones or whose stones no
longer exist. If you have any of this information or if you have additional information for anyone who is buried in
this cemetery,
please
email the Warren County Genealogical Society.
Cemetery Name |
Shakers of Union Village |
Variant Name(s) |
Shaker Family, North Family The cemetery is listed as "East Shaker" in the GNIS system and elsewhere which we believe is incorrect. The cemetery is located immediately west of the site of the "North Family" at Union Village and a considerable distance from the site where the "East Family" of the Shakers was located. |

Cemetery History |
This cemetery was visited in August 2004 by Katherine L. Rowland who writes, “Many inferences have been made in articles and lectures, to the effect that the Shakers did not put monuments on gravesites. However, there were, apparently, exceptions, at least toward the last years of Union Village. Five markers, complete with names, now stand in the old North Family Cemetery; in addition, there are two field stones without names; and one concrete base with marker missing.” The name East Shaker which this cemetery is sometimes called is a mistake from the WPA maps. |
