Projects to Do
Welcome to our project page. This page lists a variety of projects we are currently working on that need volunteer assistance. We are always looking for volunteers to help in our library. So if you have a few extra hours and would like to help, please contact us, by email, wcgs@co.warren.oh.us or by phone, (513) 695-1144.
We are in the process of digitizing all the tombstones in the Warren County cemeteries. This is a huge undertaking and we will need many able bodies to help with this task. If you want to do this project, you need to first decide which township you want to work in, then contact us and we will tell you which cemeteries are available and what type of project they are. We have smaller cemeteries, which are perfect for home schooled children.
There are two types of projects to do. The one you will be assigned is dependent upon the township you choose. There are very few that we haven't transcribed. Most just need updating.
1. Cemeteries that have no transcription
2. Cemeteries with old transcriptions
What we would like you to do- for both projects
What we have found works the best for transcribing the stones is to divide the cemetery in sections and give each group a stack of 3x5 cards. Use a separate card for each tombstone and write it exactly as it appears on the tombstone. Make sure to note which section the card is in (most cemeteries have names, letters or numbers for each section thus making it easier to find the tombstones). Also when you are finished with the project, prepare a CD with all the digital images from the cemetery and present a copy of everything to WCGS.
1. Obituary Index cross reference
We want to go back through our obituary books and
list where each person is buried into our master database at our library
2. Reading films for Obituaries prior to 1909
We want to make available obituaries for earlier
years, but this requires us to go through and read old films and find each
entry
3. Data entry for information we put on our web pages
