Each township enjoys the rights and privileges conferred by the laws of the General assembly, managing their own affairs such as roads, ditches, schools, care of the poor, justices of the peace and local taxes. Each township may receive, hold and dispose of real and personal property and levy taxes.

General administrative board for the
township. They care and control the township property, levy taxes, repair
roads, keep care of the township cemeteries, maintain the township board
of health and may furnish relief to the poor. |
Justices of the Peace |
Regulated by County Probate Court.
They have jurisdiction over minor offenses in township, and have power to
solemnize marriages, administer oaths, acknowledge deeds, call witnesses
and compel them to appear for trials. |
